Hospitals and nursing homes are not an exception either. Therefore, various preventive measures must be put in place to keep these pests out. We can say wherever there are people, there are bed bugs, too. Broward provides a favorable climate for bed bugs to infest homes.

What do you need to know about adult bed bugs?

The color of adult bed bugs is similar to that of an apple seed. They are almost the size of a lentil and 3/16 inches in length. Their body is flat and oval. Sometimes, people mistake bedbugs for cockroaches or other insects. The nymphs quite resemble the adult bedbugs.

However, the color and size of nymphs are different. If we talk about adult female bed bugs, they usually prefer laying their eggs in places that are secluded. In their lifetime, they are capable of giving hundreds of eggs.

In a day, they usually lay two eggs at a time. You may not be able to see the eggs with the naked eye; you will have to make use of magnification. At first, the eggs can be sticky to the surface where the females lay them. It takes about a week for the eggs to hatch when the temperature is right.

What are the behavioral characteristics of bed bugs?

Most insects cannot go on without feeding for months. However, that is not the case with bed bugs. The nymphs and adult bed bugs can go on for months without feeding. Furthermore, when the temperature is more relaxed, then they can survive for more extended periods without feeding on blood.

They can usually go one to four months without having anything.  This is why if you think you can starve them, that may not be so easy. If any apartment that is already infested by bedbugs is left without anyone residing in it, bed bugs are likely to disperse in other parts of the place, too.

  • More active at night
  • During the daytime, they prefer hiding near the place where people usually sleep.
  • Usually found near resting places inside the house, such as sofas or beds.
  • They can easily fit into smaller spaces such as crevices.
  • You are unlikely to spot any odor unless the infestation is quite severe.
  • Bugs can also attach themselves to your body and travel to other places. They are known for their hitchhiking abilities.
  • You may get irritation to the skin or inflammation from their bites.
  • Sometimes you may actually have itching from bed bug bites but you may think it is a mosquito.
  • This results in the bedbug infestation going unnoticed.

Do not let the bedbugs bite!

The inspection for these little insects needs to be thorough as they cannot be easily spotted. Therefore you may require someone who is aware of various methods that can be employed to get them out of your property.
